Well, the ground crew out back has started the minor blasting--I call it minor because it's not heavy-duty rocking-the-house explosions. Not even a ripple inside, even. The only thing shaking in here is me.
I admit--I'm not a big fan of loud noises, especially ones that catch me by surprise. I can't hear the warning whistles from my room, but I can certainly hear the sound of the blast. It's rather unsettling, and I've been on edge since they started.
However, I was convinced to at least watch one of their blasts, from the safety of the glass room. It was easier then, I could hear the warnings there, and it was more noise than visuals. They have mats down over the holes, to muffle quite a bit. It winds up being mostly noise and watching the mats bounce up a bit.
I even came down later and watched another one, though I still feel a bit nervous. I was glad to be sitting both times, since my legs are shaking a bit. I had my hands (and later my legs) around the table leg while I watched. Perhaps I've still got a long way to go.
As I write this, dusk has fallen and the crew is done for the day. They'll take tomorrow off, and be back Monday...if the weather works out, I suppose. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
In lighter news, Lynn has a job. It's official now, and she's working tonight. She's called me twice today--once to tell me she had the bus out but needed a ride home (from a store in Orono, at 8 pm) and asking for a possible ride (as expected, mom said oh-hell-no) and the second time to tell me she got ahold of Raine and that would be her ride home. She's willing to wait an hour and a half at least for a ride when she was offered taxi fare from her dad to go right home when she got out? I find it silly.
I also wonder why her uncle couldn't come back to the store or wait for her and give her a ride, but oh well. I think she's incredibly lucky that Raine is such a good sport about this.
(I still wouldn't blame Raine if at some point, she decided to say oh-hell-no as well.)
All three of us are now retail slaves together, though in different stores, and we're all working tomorrow. There was talk of us all meeting after Raine gets out for the night, but now I'm not sure. After all, she still has homework, and then classes on Monday, and then she's Lynn's ride tomorrow...I'm not sure if we'll be able to pull it off.
That, and Raine dropped her laptop off here for a diagnostic tonight, to see if we can figure out how to fix her display issues. No exterior damage, but that could be hiding internal problems, and hopefully my brother can figure out how to fix it.
I really should start updating this more, but I just get discouraged sometimes. With everything going on lately, I guess I get distracted and don't have anything interesting to post.
Perhaps I can fix that. I have a lot to work on, and this will be part of the list.
(Oddly, with all the anxiety about "Black Friday" coming up, I saw on the schedule that I have the day off. I'm certainly surprised about this--am I really one of the lucky ones?)
